From student to Product Owner: Malo’s internship in Dubai

Malo joined Revolut as a Product Owner intern during the summer of 2026, taking his technical background out of the classroom and into a fast-paced Product team. We caught up with him to hear why he chose Revolut, what a Product Owner actually does, and what he’s learned from working on real products and challenges as an intern.

Why did you choose a Product Owner Internship at Revolut?

I wanted to work on a product I already used and loved. I knew that Revolut, even though it had scaled massively, was still an environment where people are given a high level of ownership, exactly what I was looking for early in my career.

The Technical Product Owner role also brought together my interests. I have an engineering background from my Bachelor’s at EPFL, and I’m now studying Management, Technology & Entrepreneurship, combining technical and data skills with business and product thinking.

I’ve always enjoyed learning across different fields rather than specialising in one, so Product felt like a natural fit.

What does being a Product Owner intern actually look like?

Day-to-day, you work across different parts of the business. You collaborate with engineers to understand what’s technically possible, respond to opportunities identified by Data or Operations, define goals and metrics, prioritise what the team works on, and monitor the impact of launches.

The rewarding part is owning the outcome with your team. When something works, you see the impact of your decisions. When it doesn’t, you’re responsible for figuring out what to change.

When did you realise how much impact you could have as an intern?

One example was working on a purchase flow to improve conversion and recovery from errors. At Revolut, changes aren’t made blindly. You form a hypothesis, launch it, and monitor the metrics to see whether the results match your expectations. As an intern, that made the impact of my work very tangible.

On the more technical side, I also helped scope the chargeback integration for a new partner. I worked through their technical specifications, identified gaps and questions, discussed them with the partner, and prepared the scope for our engineers. You’re contributing to real products and problems rather than being given separate “intern work”.

What have you learned from working alongside Revolut’s engineers and Product leaders?

The biggest thing I’ve learned is the standard of work and the level of care behind each decision. Whether it’s a UI change, bug fix, or architectural decision, ideas are challenged and thought through carefully, while discussions stay direct and focused enough to keep moving quickly.

The ambition of the people around me also stood out.

What have you learned here that you couldn’t learn at university?

The biggest difference is the scale and access to real data. At university, being “data-driven” can sometimes feel abstract. You learn about metrics and A/B testing, but you don’t really experience their impact. At Revolut, a small change in a metric can represent a significant number of customers or a meaningful business impact. That makes data much more tangible.

Scale also changes how you think about building a product. You have to consider not only what works today, but how a solution will perform as the product grows, expands into new markets, and reaches more customers. That’s difficult to experience in a classroom.

Why would you recommend Revolut to students looking to start a career in Product?

I felt trusted from early on in my internship and was given the opportunity to solve real problems, rather than simply support the team.

As a Product Owner intern, you work across design, engineering, Data, Operations, and Compliance, so you quickly learn how different parts of a product come together. You’re encouraged to find answers independently, use data to make decisions, and take ownership of your work. For me, that combination of responsibility, exposure, and independence made it an environment where I could learn very quickly.
